A tropical perennial introduced from Africa that responds well from San Antonio south into Mexico. Emerges quickly in warm soils. Growth was 2' within 5 weeks and 5' in 90 days. On well fertilized stand in South Texas. Very green lush growht that cattle relish. Green Panic is a selection from Guinea grass and grows well in areas where average annual rainfall is at least 20" up to areas taht average 80" annually. Green Panic consistently out-yields Kleingrass by as much as 40%. Green Panic can be used as a self-seeding annual, with a certain amount of success if allowed to seed in areas where stands are damaged by cold temperatures. Excellent response to fertilization and irrigation where rainfall is below 20".
Establishment/Management: Plant is well prepared seedbed late spring when soil is warm; may be fall-planted South Texas and Mexico. Plant 1/2 - 3/4" deep and pack soil or plant with Brillion seeder.
Rows: 0.8 lbs. PLS per acre in 36 - 40" rows.
Broadcast: 1.5 - 2.0 lbs. PLS per acre.
Intermitent grazing at intervals consistent with good managemtn practices first year. Stand will greatly increase if allowed to seed. Excellent hay if cut prior to seeding. Seed Yeilds vary from 50 - 150 lbs. per acre.
Adaptation/Use: Adapted to wide range of soils. Tolerant to wide range of moisture conditons, 20 - 80" annually. Use for grazing, hay and seed production in pure stands. Swathe, dry then combine for best results. Adaptation and use is similiar to Blue Panic.
